Six of Textiles

In the balance of giving and receiving,
I seem to play different roles at various
Junctures of life, where seams are made.
I land in the discomfort of having a fine
Cloak when someone close wears
Rags. I notice when the veil looks like a
Prison to me and freedom to another,
Then I understand only that I do not
Understand another’s material position.
I consider looking for empathy and kindness
That is honest so that we may travel
Together along the Silk Road, a dangerous journey,
Where trading places is haphazard as life’s
Demands and expectations wear upon us.
